RetainWall is a software mainly designed for the purpose of designing a concrete or masonry retaining wall. The wall may retain soil or other granular material. It analyses the stability of the wall based on the loads and the resulting base pressure, sliding, eccentricities and restraints. Loads applied on the wall may consist of self weight, soil pressure, water pressure, live and seismic loads. Sliding restraints may consist of passive earth pressure, other structures or a shear key. If the wall is a reinforced concrete structure, the software also supports the reinforcement design. In addition, a soil pressure calculator is also provided.

RetainWall is designed to be an easy application, on-screen trial-and-error method and quick solution finding of the design. A familiar designer can design the wall within minutes. Complete outputs can be viewed on screen or printed.

Operation of the software begins from the initial dimensioning of the wall, earth surface and water levels by clicking on the given dimensions. Next is inputting material properties of the wall, soil, water and reinforcement bars. External loads given consist of live load on the ground surface, seismic load as a horizontal seismic coefficient and any concentrated loads applied on the wall if required. Results of the wall stability can be obtained immediately. If they are not satisfied then another trial can be made very quickly. There are also options to use or not to use water, seismic or a shear key. You have the possibility to print your final results.

Using the internal forces of the wall, reinforced concrete design can also be done very quickly. It requires only bar diameters and spacings of the reinforcements.

RetainWall supports metric, SI and British unit systems.

کار کردن با ماتریس‌ها در Matlab بسیار ساده است. در حقیقت تمام داده‌ها در Matlab به شکل یک ماتریس ذخیره می‌شوند. برای مثال یک عدد (اسکالر) به شکل یک ماتریس ۱*۱ ذخیره می‌شود. یک رشته مانند «Whale is the biggest animal» به شکل ماتریسی با یک سطر و چندین ستون (که تعداد ستون‌ها به تعداد کاراکترهاست) ذخیره می‌شود. حتی یک تصویر به شکل یک ماتریس سه بعدی ذخیره می‌گردد که بُعد اول و دوم آن برای تعیین مختصات نقاط و بُعد سوم آن برای تعیین رنگ نقاط استفاده می‌شود. فایل‌های صوتی نیز در Matlab به شکل ماتریس‌های تک ستون (بردارهای ستونی) ذخیره می‌شوند. بنابراین جای تعجب نیست که Matlab مخفف عبارت Matrix Laboratory باشد. علاوه بر توابع فراوانی که خود Matlab دارد، برنامه‏نویس نیز می‏تواند توابع جدید تعریف کند.

A number of updates have been made to DEEPSOIL since the release of version 3.7, including:

1. DEEPSOIL now supports Windows 7.
2. The DEEPSOIL user interface has been completely recreated using the latest .NET components.
3. DEEPSOIL now includes auto-update checking, notifying the user when a new version is available. Users can also check for updates using the “Check for Updates” function available in the “Tools” menu.
4. DEEPSOIL uses new charting tools, providing more-accurate and visually appealing plots.
5. Excel output has been vastly improved. Exporting to Excel is now approximately 25x faster and includes plots of profile data.
6. Printing has been added. The user can now print plots of input motions, analysis results, PGA profile, and iteration convergence (for equivalent linear analyses).
7. The user can now cancel an analysis while it is running.
8. DEEPSOIL is now multi-core aware when running batch analyses. Up to 4 analyses can be run concurrently in batch mode (note: limited to 1 analysis per core).
9. Added an “Options” window for setting defaults: working directory, input motion directory, saved profile directory, units, multi-core etc. It can be found in the “Tools” menu.
10. Added a tool to convert motions downloaded from the PEER Strong Motion Database (.AT2) to the DEEPSOIL format.
11. DEEPSOIL now includes a library that allows the user to view input motions and open profiles without the need to start an analysis.
12. The natural frequency and period of the soil column is now shown in step 2.
13. An input summary has been added to review input parameters.
